I just finished watching the first season of the BBC's modern retelling of Sherlock Holmes. The series opens with Watson, lost in a drab, overly bright world of endless concrete. Once he meets Sherlock, however, he finds himself in a darker more exciting place. Every nook and cranny, backed with wonderful, gaudy wallpaper.

In this scene, a bored Sherlock makes target practice of a smiley face painted on the wall. Holmes, "Do you have to take in out on the wallpaper?" Sherlock, "The wallpaper had it coming."

A ghostly forest for the suicidal pink lady.

Even the bad guys get fun backdrops.
